A complex lower-ground remodelling and garden transformation for a mid-Victorian villa

Wellington Road was a substantial two-part rear extension and remodelling project to a mid-Victorian villa, involving both the ground and lower-ground floors. The work opened up and reorganised the rear of the house while addressing the challenges of semi-basement accommodation, below-ground waterproofing, level changes and disabled access.

The project also included extensive re-terracing and re-landscaping of the rear garden, along with driveway alterations to improve access and arrival. To the rear, a new conservatory extension was designed with a heritage steel framed-glazed screen and zinc roof, creating a light-filled connection between the lower front door and garden.

Because of the scale and complexity of the proposals, the project required a multi-phase planning approach. With an engaged, design-oriented client.
